Hey everyone! We hope this post meets you well. MedInspirit is back with this week’s blog and we are excited to share several exciting and informative opportunities in relation to Neurology as well as an upcoming webinar.
The knowledge acquired in high school is extremely influential and integral when determining our success in a specific career field. It is advised that students take challenging courses in the upper-grade levels in order to prepare them well for the field of neurology. Such challenging courses include advanced placement courses in biology, anatomy, chemistry, physiology, and physics and math courses as well. Taking language classes, such as French and Spanish, can be helpful in order to understand diverse patients. Studying Latin in high school is also recommended so learning complicated medical terms can be easier in the future. Communication is a key asset to have as a doctor, and practice with oral skills through English or public speaking classes can be helpful in today’s diverse world.
Early experience with any career field is important: this will allow you to decide if you are truly passionate about this field. Experts recommend all high school students interested in medical fields to become involved in their school and community. Within school, students should aim to become a part of and participate in medical organizations, such as HOSA or Science Bowl. Students should also dive deep into the research field of their interest. For example, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) facilitates students with a summer study program during which participants can receive top class neuroscience training and hands-on experience. These labs with professional scientists are located in Bethesda and Rockville, Maryland, and in Capecod, Massachusetts. Within the community, students should aim to volunteer at hospitals, nursing homes, fundraisers, and events for medical causes. All of these activities will allow you to become aware of the healthcare field and gain experience, while also being an impressive addition to your college resume. Although the pandemic has limited many opportunities, we recommend that you reach out to local organizations and discover the alternatives that they’ve made for their volunteer programs. Thinking out of the box is also a great initiative: starting your own fundraisers, organizing webinars, or even starting a blog about the roles of Neurologists is a way to make an impact.
One of MedInspirit’s goals is to welcome an expert of the month’s profession to our platform for an interview. Since Neurology is an exciting field that many young students are interested in, we will be conducting our first medical webinar! The neurology webinar, titled Brain Breakthrough, will cover several presentations and interactive activities including quizzes, games, and a Q&A. It will take place virtually on Google Meets on December 12th from 3:00-4:00 pm (CST). We will also have a guest speaker, Dr. Rudrani Banik, present at the webinar. Dr. Banik is a talented and experienced neurologist who is excited to share her medical insight with us. We highly recommend you sign up for the webinar to join in on the interesting conversations and fun activities. The links for how you can register to become a student or a volunteer (receive hours for helping us out) are below. Please make sure to sign up soon so you can take advantage of the wonderful knowledge this webinar has to offer.
Becoming a neurologist is a tedious yet wonderful career path to choose because it allows you to master a variety of different medical skills, communicate with many people, and enables you to significantly support the lives of other people. MedInspirit is here to provide you with the best opportunities and resources so that you can turn your dreams into reality. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions!
